Welcome

Welcome to the Game of the Gods.

If you find yourself here, it’s because someone has chosen you. Perhaps it was an Avatar. Perhaps it was another Player. Perhaps you just happened to stumble across it somehow, in which case, you were chosen by fate itself.

Either way, you are faced with a choice now. One option is to turn away from Destiny. I’m sure she doesn’t mind. After all, a lady is allowed to change her mind. Go ahead. Sit on the sidelines. Turn around and run, or even just walk away. It’s not like you have any sort of obligation. That would just be sinister. No, you’re free to leave, with morbid curiosity as the only thing that could potentially pull you back.

Or you can embrace the opportunity to take part in the Game of the Gods.

Our two Avatars, Hermes and Mercury, have grown quite bored lately. Their job has lost its spark, and they have decided to recruit Players into a game: a game upon which the fates of two men rest.

You, among likeminded individuals, will have a direct line to our Avatars. meaning that you will be in partial control of one of these two men’s lives.

If their offer has piqued your curiosity, please, by all mean, examine the Rules of their game a bit more closely. Decide whether or not you plan to participate. Once again, you can walk away, or you can seize the power our Avatars are giving you.

What will you do with this power? Well, dear Players...the choice is up to you.

Team Lists, Small Updates, and Update Schedules

The game now officially has sixteen Players divided into two teams of eight.  A team list has been put up so you know whose on which team.  Almost all of you have already provided e-mail addresses, so you should be able to find each other easily.  You can use these lists to find out who’s on what team and find each other to discuss and work together—or just continue to work alone.

Oh, and just as a side note, congratulations to all of you on Team Hermes.  I look forward to working with you all personally.

In addition, the team lists and the application thread are now right in the sidebar under “Tools of the Gods,” so that you don’t have to go through the “Rules” page every time you want to check out the application thread.  It was stupid not to make the application thread accessible from the front page from the start, and that’s been fixed now.

Finally, we’re trying to figure out an update schedule, and we’re going to have to play by ear a bit.  For every update, the comments will be open until a certain point.  That point may vary depending on how crucial or insignificant the next actions are (or maybe how cruel we want to be—“reach a crucial decision within a day!”), but we’d like to keep a reasonable timeframe and try to update fairly shortly afterwards.  This is where we’d love your feedback.  Does a week sound fair?  Just to let you know, we’re thinking of closing comments for this update sometime between next Thursday and Saturday.  On one hand, it’d be great to get as many of you as possible to participate, and since we’re all still learning the ropes, it’d be nice to give you all a generous timeframe.  At the same time, we don’t want to go too long before updating, since it’s probably a largely inconsequential update and it’s most advantageous to get going and not drag things out.

Anyway, any opinions would be greatly appreciated!  And of course, if you’ve got a friend you think would be interested, recommend it to them!  The more, the merrier!

  1. It makes sense to start off slow because people might still be trickling in. I think the deadline being next Friday-ish would be fine.

  2. I'd say a week is a good average, you could change it from time to time depending on the long-term scale or content of each post, but a week average sounds good for most posts.

Helps when you consider different time zones and personal stuff for the players.

  3. I know from personal experince how difficult it is to do a project like this, where as the puppet master you still only have (extremly) limited control. As much as I want to see the results of everything quickly, I understand the strain of writing on the fly, a week between updates makes more than enough sense, and I'll understand if you have to take even longer breaks between working everything.
